Bio
Mokma is in his fourth season as the pitching coach for the HU baseball program.
In 2026, the Foresters posted one of the best pitching seasons in program history, finishing 16th nationally in ERA (4.49), 13th in WHIP (1.41), and 24th in strikeouts per nine innings (9.11). Huntington led the Crossroads League in both ERA and WHIP while finishing second in conference wins. Under Mokma’s guidance, Grant Simmons was named Crossroads League Pitcher of the Year and earned First Team All-Conference honors, while Max Engle and Dylan Eggl received Second Team All-Conference recognition.
In 2025, the Foresters ranked 16th in the NAIA in strikeouts per nine innings (9.61). Mokma also coached Tyler Papenbrock who became Huntington University’s all-time career strikeout leader with 319 career strikeouts.
During his first season with the Foresters in 2024, Huntington finished third in the Crossroads League in ERA (5.42) and led the conference with a 4.48 ERA in league play. Mokma helped develop several award-winning pitchers, including Graham Kollen (First Team All-Conference), RJ Anglin (First Team All-Conference and Crossroads League Newcomer of the Year), and Tyler Papenbrock (Second Team All-Conference). Papenbrock also established a new program single-season record with 105 strikeouts, ranking first in the Crossroads League and 21st nationally.
Mokma brings a decorated pitching career to the position. He signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2019. After three years with the Dodgers, he wrapped up his professional career with the Seattle Mariners. He finished his pro career with a 3.32 ERA in 81 innings.
Prior to signing with the Dodgers, Mokma played three years at Michigan State where he logged 18 starts, including a complete game, and posted a career ERA of 3.70.
Mokma also pitched for the Brazos Valley Bombers in the Texas Collegiate Baseball League. In addition to being named the Freshman of the Year in his rookie season, he also garnered First Team All-League honors and set the record for most complete games in a season with the Bombers. His resume also includes playing for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the Cape Cod League.
Mokma came to HU with a year of coaching under his belt having served as the head coach at South Christian High School and the pitching coach for the Lafayette Aviators. He earned his degree from MSU in Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science in 2023.
