Bio
Tim Averill enters his third season as head coach of the Huntington University softball program after previously serving three years as associate head coach. With more than 14 years of coaching experience, Averill has helped guide the Foresters into one of the most consistent programs in the Crossroads League.
In his first season at the helm, Averill was named Crossroads League Co-Coach of the Year after leading Huntington to 33 wins - the second-most in program history - and a third-place regular-season finish, the program’s best showing since 2015-16. Across his first two seasons as head coach, his teams have produced seven All-Conference selections and five Gold Glove winners while also excelling academically with 15 NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.
Averill’s coaching career began in 2006 at Staunton High School as an assistant baseball coach. During that time, he also contributed to Buffalo Gap High School’s football program, helping guide the team to a 2007 state championship. His early coaching experience also included work with Buffalo Gap baseball and leadership within the Churchville Diamond Club youth baseball and softball organization.
A former standout pitcher at Lenawee Christian High School, Averill earned back-to-back all-state honors before continuing his playing career collegiately, including a season at Huntington University under Coach Mike Frame.
In addition to leading the softball program, Averill serves as assistant Sports Information Director at Huntington University. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Management from Huntington in 2005. He and his wife, Kajsa, also a Huntington graduate, reside in Huntington with their two sons, Brady and Ty.
