The 2025-26 season marks the fifth year for Darby Maggard as head coach of the Huntington University women’s basketball program, where she has quickly established the Foresters as one of the premier programs in the NAIA.

Under Maggard’s leadership, Huntington has returned to national prominence after a decade-long absence, earning back-to-back NAIA National Tournament appearances and advancing to the Round of 32 in each of the past two seasons.

The Foresters have also continued to excel in the classroom and across the conference, with her players racking up 14 All-Conference and 16 NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors during her first four years which includes Crossroads League Freshman of the Year Bailey Kelham in 2024.

Before returning to her home state, Maggard spent two seasons as an assistant coach at UT Martin, helping guide the Skyhawks to an Ohio Valley Conference regular-season championship and an appearance in the NIT.

An outstanding player at Belmont University, Maggard remains one of the most decorated shooters in NCAA history. She is the program’s all-time leader in three-point field goals (430), three-point percentage (43.1%), and free throw percentage (92.4%), while also surpassing 2,000 career points. Maggard was the first women’s basketball player in NCAA history to record at least 650 assists and 400 made three-pointers, and she helped lead Belmont to four OVC Tournament titles, four NCAA Tournament appearances, and three regular-season championships. Her individual accolades include OVC Player of the Year, OVC Female Athlete of the Year, and AP All-America honors.

Following her collegiate career, Maggard played professionally with the Liffey Celtics in Ireland’s Super League.

A Canterbury High School standout, Maggard was the 2015 Indiana Miss Basketball runner-up and a McDonald’s All-America nominee having averaged 28.1 points and 7.7 assists per game as a senior. She led Canterbury to back-to-back state championships and finished her prep career as one of Indiana’s most prolific guards, earning multiple Player of the Year honors and setting school records for points in a game (47) and assists in a game (17).

In addition to her coaching duties, Maggard serves as Huntington University’s Assistant Athletic Director for Recruitment. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Sport Administration from Belmont University and an MBA from the University of Tennessee.
