Pilots Sneak Past Foresters

Huntington, Ind. - The Bethel Pilots took down the Huntington University women's volleyball team in five sets (20-25, 25-21,25-22,24-25, 15-13) Saturday afternoon in Platt Arena. 

The Foresters won the opening set with a balanced offensive attack. Maisyn Robrock put the exclamation point on the first set with her fourth kill of the set. Bethel would win sets two and three, but HU fought back to win the fourth set with the help of six kills from Haley Kruse. The Foresters got off to a hot start in the rubber match, leading 9-4 in the race to 15 points. Bethel (15-11, 5-6) would steal all momentum by scoring seven of the next eight points to take an 11-10 lead. The Pilots fought off HU to win the final set 15-13.  

Kruse led the Foresters with a match best 18 kills. The junior outside hitter recorded an impressive .320 kill percentage, while also digging ten Pilot attacks. Robrock had a season high 15 kills. Layla Meyer was all over the court on her way to 26 digs. Sophomore setter Lauren Ross dished out 58 assists and dug out 17 Pilot attacks.  
 
"We wanted this one so badly and it hurts to lose it so closely," said Coach Kelsey Herber. "Overall, we played a great match. We need to work on limiting serve and receive ruts, and we also want to grow in our competitors mentality that says, 'Give me the ball when the game is on the line!'".  
 
The Foresters (13-10, 5-6) will be back in action on Wednesday when they make the trip to Ohio to take on #16 Mount Vernon. The first serve is schedule for 7:00 p.m. at Ariel Arena.
