Meyer Earns AVCA All-Region Honors to Cap Stellar Career

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Senior libero Layla Meyer capped off a stellar Huntington University volleyball career by earning AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention recognition for the North Central Region, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

One of the most consistent defenders in program history, the 5-foot-3 libero wrapped up her time in Forester green with 2,129 career digs, the third-most in program history. Meyer saved some of her best volleyball for her final season, piling up 681 digs during the fall campaign while averaging 5.36 digs per set, a mark that ranked among the league's best.

Meyer was the backbone of Huntington's defense all season, leading the team in digs while also topping the stat sheet in service aces (58) and adding 130 assists, showcasing her all-around impact from the back row.

Her standout senior season also earned top conference recognition, as Meyer was voted the Crossroads League Libero of the Year and named First Team All-League, cementing her place as the premier defensive player in the conference.

Meyer's individual success was mirrored by a historic season for the Foresters. Huntington finished the year with a 25-10 overall record, the program's most wins since the 2006 season. The fall also marked a breakthrough moment for the program, as HU earned its first berth in the NAIA National Tournament since 1993.

The Foresters made the most of their return to the national stage, rallying for a dramatic reverse sweep at Viterbo in opening-round action before advancing to the final site in Sioux City as one of 24 teams competing for a national championship.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 181 NAIA All-America honors and 631 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
